Background

On May 5, 2023, the American blogger Gonzalo Lira was arrested for the second time in Kharkov. He has now died in prison:

We reported in detail about his arrest on May 7, 2023.

“The Western press was deadly silent about Gonzalo Lira’s arrest – now he is dead.”

The reason for the arrest was a video in which Gonzalo Lira criticized the Ukrainian regime. We added subtitles to this video at the time and published it – we are doing so again here:

Here is the transcript:

Vladimir Putin, he is  – for all intense and purposes – what you can call an ethnic nationalist but he is not an imperialist.

The Kijw Regime, I tell you right now – these people are Neo-facist and Neo-Nazis.

The west is the one puppeteering Zelensky. The Kiyv regime is constantly shelling the regions of the Donbas. 16’000 people died after 2015 until the start of this conflict. A thousand children or 800 children were killed

Gonzalo Lira

Silently hushed up by Western media

“The Western press was deadly silent about Gonzalo Lira’s arrest – now he is dead.”

There were exceptions: In addition to blogs like ZeroHedge or VoicefromRussia.com, Weltwoche in Switzerland had the courage and decency to abbreviate our article.

Tucker Carlson tries to help

On January 12, 2024, the American journalist Tucker Carlson interviewed Gonzalo’s father. An interview that shows that the American authorities abandon their citizens if they criticize the American regime.

Now he is dead

Yesterday, the American blogger Alex Rubinstein published the news that Gonzalo Lira is dead in a post.

In it, he also published a letter from Gonzalo Lira which Rubinstein received on January 4, 2023.

“I have had double pneumonia (both lungs) as well as pneumothorax and a very severe case of edema (swelling of the body). All this started in mid-October, but was ignored by the prison. They only admitted I had pneumonia at a Dec. 22 hearing. I am about to have a procedure to reduce the edema pressure in my lungs, which is causing me extreme shortness of breath, to the point of passing out after minimal activity, or even just talking for 2 minutes.”

Conclusion

Anyone who criticizes the West as a journalist is living dangerously.

“Loyalty among journalists – a deadly flaw.”

Only a few blogs and a few newspapers that still deserve their name reported on Gonzalo Lira’s death.

If the Western press had stood up, Gonzalo Lira would still be alive. Loyalty among journalists – a deadly flaw.
