J.D. Vance’s incendiary speech in Munich
On February 14, 2025, US Vice President J.D. Vance gave a speech in Munich that will probably go down in the history books. He reads Europe the riot act – especially with regard to democracy and freedom of expression. We are taking the liberty of making a few introductory remarks.

Prelude to JD Vance’s speech at the Munich Security Conference on February 14, 2025
The Trump administration is going through the Western world like an earthquake. Positions that were thought to be secure are falling like houses of cards: austerity policies that we previously only knew from the IMF and World Bank for developing countries are being applied to the US budget deficits in order to stabilize the admittedly absolutely catastrophic public financial situation.
“As long as it takes” against Russia is being called into question: Donald Trump is on the phone with the devil Putin. The new American “defense” minister reads Europe the riot act. And now the Vice President of the US is coming to the Munich Security Conference and ordering the German “firewall” to be torn down in order to restore legitimacy to German democracy.
This is good news for all those interested in peace.
But don’t be fooled – it’s a bit like the fairy tale of Little Red Riding Hood: The wolf puts on another cloak to better reach his destination. As JD Vance said in Munich: “And that to me is the great magic of democracy” – those in power can only face the future with certainty and confidence if they know that “the nation is behind each and every one of them”.
Alongside the looming financial catastrophe in the US, which would sweep the entire West along with it, the greatest danger to the empire is the obvious “disenchantment with politics” – in other words, the delegitimization of political power. While the interests of the respective populations are being taken into account in the BRICS countries, the populations in the West are increasingly being plunged into poverty and misery. However, J.F. Kennedy had already recognized that in a situation of systemic competition, you can only win if you ensure that the respective populations can lead a comfortable and secure life and have a voice that is actually heard. Otherwise you will lose support for your own plans and people will turn to the system that suits them better. In the long run, insults such as “autocratic” or “dictatorial” or “right-wing extremist” won’t help.
According to reports, JD Vance gave Friedrich Merz the necessary directives after his appearance in Munich and also met with Alice Weidel (outside of the “security” conference). We can look forward to the new tones that will now emerge in the German election campaign – will “they” heed the message?
