When I hear and see opinion-leading politicians and journalists today or read their statements, my hair stands on end. I can hardly bear it any more; I think some of these people are traitors who should be brought to justice. They call for Germany to rearm and become “war-ready” again. They incite hatred against Russia at every opportunity, against other countries and against critics of their war policy. Were two world wars, which led to the complete destruction of Germany and continue to have an impact to this day, not enough?

A recently published manifesto by prominent Social Democrats protesting against the German government’s foreign and security policy[1] offers hope, even if you don’t have to agree with everything they write. After all, former parliamentary group leader Rolf Mützenich, foreign policy expert Ralf Stegner, former party chairman Norbert Walter-Borjans, former finance minister Hans Eichel and many others are calling for an immediate U-turn in dealings with Russia and in matters of armament. Among other things, they oppose the high armament costs and the stationing of new US medium-range missiles in Germany.

The manifesto states, among other things: “80 years after the end of the catastrophe of the century of the Second World War and the liberation from Hitler-fascism, peace is once again under threat in Europe too… We are a long way from a return to a stable peace and security order in Europe. On the contrary: in Germany and in most European states, forces have prevailed that are looking for the future primarily in a military confrontation strategy and hundreds of billions of euros for armaments.”

But “military alarm rhetoric and huge armament programmes” do not create more security for Germany and Europe, according to the authors of the manifesto, but rather lead “to destabilization and to a strengthening of the mutual threat perception between NATO and Russia”. A “peace and security order for Europe that is supported by all and respected by all” is therefore needed.

undefinednew approach”. The resistance that immediately formed[2] is great, but the Social Democrats’ manifesto could be the signal for a new peace policy approach. It is good that more and more people are realizing that they are being deceived and lied into a war with Russia.

The writer and journalist Dr. Wolfgang Bittner has published books such as “Germany – betrayed and sold” and “Nobody should starve without freezing”.
